Debra Lee Taylor Barrett, “Debbie,” of Waynesboro, VA, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Augusta Health, Fishersville, VA.
Debbie was born February 21, 1957 to the late Reubin Earl Taylor and Ruby Kathryn Taylor in Staunton, VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Barrett; her boyfriend, Glenn Bowers; sister, Carol Taylor; special uncle, Ronald Taylor; and her stepchildren, Jerry Barrett, JoAnn Munden, and Pauline Wood.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kathryn Moore and her husband Poet (Daniel); very special grandson Gideon, who was her world; brother, James Eavey of Arizona; niece, Elizabeth Montana “Tana” Eavey; and a special aunt and uncle, Judy and Bud Hatcher; and stepchildren, Tommie Crowe, Violet Collier, and Roy Barrett. Debbie also had several step grandchildren and family and friends that will cherish her memory.
Debbie attended Basic United Methodist Church as a child and for many years as an adult. She loved the Lord and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for several years. Most recently, she attended the Salvation Army Church of Waynesboro and enjoyed worship every Sunday.
She touched the lives of many people through her career with Waynesboro Public Schools and Augusta County Public Schools. She was affectionately known as “Mom” to many children over the years. The love she had for children was tremendous and was one of her greatest attributes.
In “retirement”, she continued to love all of her coworkers at American Adhesives and Carter’s Bakery. Debbie poured her heart and soul into caring for others.
McDow Funeral Home of Waynesboro, Virginia will be handling arrangements.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main St., Waynesboro, VA.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 8, 2021 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Salvation Army Church of Waynesboro, 900 B St., Waynesboro, VA with Lieutenant Rachel Pruitt officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Rd, Waynesboro, VA.
